Setting a routine

I'm going to use my standard routine with Addison and hopefully the structure will be good for her. It will consist of:

  • morning walk or run
  • feeding
  • me get ready for work
  • take her out again quickly
  • crate her while I'm at work
  • come home
  • evening walk or run
  • training
  • feeding
  • house leisure time while I observe her
  • take her outside before bed
  • crate her for the night

The first night I let Addison sleep in the bedroom on the dog bed instead of crating her because I wanted to see how she did out of the crate. No accidents during the night so that was good.

We got up in the morning and it was hard to get her up and ready for the morning walk. I'm hoping as I stick with the routine this will make the mornings easier. Part of it may have been that she was not in the crate.

During the walk she only peed so I knew I had to keep my eye on her. When we got back I fed her and when I noticed that she stopped halfway through eating I quickly got her outside so she could go to the bathroom. As long as I keep catching her before she has to go it should make the house breaking easier.

I have been trying to work on 'sit' with her but I lose her attention and not even training treats retain it. I am setting rules and boundaries for her and she is learning 'off'. I use it quite often with she tries to jump up on me, the couch, or my bed. I want to make sure she only does these things when invited and not at her leisure.
